Forty years in the making, RouteSmart cuts the ribbon on new, expanded headquarters in Columbia

Step inside our newly expanded, state-of-the-art global headquarters in Columbia, Maryland—built to foster the next generation of logistical innovation and collaboration.

For more than 40 years, RouteSmart has pursued a simple but powerful mission: to solve the world’s most complex route planning and optimization challenges. From our early days as an ambitious tech pioneer to our position today as a global leader in intelligent route planning, Howard County, Maryland, has anchored our global operations.

On September 2, 2026, we officially turned the page to an exciting new chapter.

Joined by federal, state, and local officials, community partners, company co-founders, and regional business leaders, the RouteSmart team celebrated the official ribbon-cutting of our expanded and newly renovated corporate headquarters at 8850 Stanford Boulevard in Columbia.

More than doubling our previous footprint, this revamped facility represents much more than just a physical expansion. It is a long-term investment in our talented team, our global clients, and the vibrant Maryland business community we are proud to call home.

“Every square foot of this new space was designed around our people and the mission-critical work they do every day,” RouteSmart President Larry Levy said. ”Providing our team with top-tier tools and an energizing environment directly translates into better support, faster innovation, and stronger outcomes for the organizations that rely on us.”

Celebrating with Our Community

A milestone of this scale is best shared with the community that helped make it possible. We were honored to host an incredible lineup of local, state, and federal dignitaries who spoke to RouteSmart’s deep local roots and global reach.

Our morning ceremony featured inspiring remarks and insights from:

  • Stephen Rice, Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce
  • Brandee Ganz, Chief Administrative Officer for the Office of Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball
  • Delegate Gabriel M. Moreno, Maryland House of Delegates (District 13)
  • Shawn MacInnes, President of the Columbia Association
  • Lori Kleppin, Howard County Chamber of Commerce
  • Ricky Powell-Graves, Regional Coordinator for Central Maryland from the Office of U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks

We were incredibly humbled to receive commemorative citations from Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s Office, the Department of Commerce, Congresswoman Elfreth’s office (represented by District Director Eva Lewis), and the Howard County Chamber. These honors underscore our shared commitment to driving economic growth and technological leadership right here in Maryland.

Honoring Our Scientific Pioneers

While we look forward to the future, we also took time during the ceremony to honor the brilliant minds who laid our foundation.

We were thrilled to welcome our founding academic partners, who pioneered the early mathematics and vehicle routing algorithms that changed how the logistics, utility, and public works sectors operate worldwide. Joining Levy were co-founders Michael Ball, Ph.D., Arjang Assad, Ph.D., and Bruce Golden, Ph.D. Co-founder Larry Bodin, Ph.D., couldn’t attend.

Their groundbreaking research is the bedrock of what we do every day and having them there to celebrate this expansion reminded us of our rich legacy of scientific excellence.

A Workspace Built for Innovation and Collaboration

The logistics industry is evolving rapidly, and we designed our new office to keep us ahead of the curve. To support our growing team and meet the changing demands of today’s workplace, the newly expanded headquarters features:

  • More Collaborative Spaces: The layout places cross-functional teams in closer proximity, with open, modern spaces specifically designed for spontaneous brainstorming and team alignment.
  • Workstation Upgrades: A significant increase in comfortable, quiet, private workstations to support focused productivity.
  • State-of-the-Art Training Facilities: Massive, high-tech conference and training rooms built specifically to support hands-on learning and workshops for our global clients.
  • Upgraded Amenities: Beautifully renovated common spaces, expanded kitchen facilities, and an outdoor balcony to give our team places to unwind, connect, and recharge.

Looking Ahead

As we cut the ribbon and walked through our new collaborative spaces, one thing became abundantly clear: the future of RouteSmart is brighter than ever. This expanded headquarters ensures our team has the tools, technology, and environment they need to keep delivering world-class optimization solutions to the postal, parcel, waste, utility, and public works sectors.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this momentous celebration, and to our incredible clients and community partners who continue to support us on this journey. Here’s to the next 40 years of innovation, growth, and community connection!
