Columbia, MD—March 25, 2015—RouteSmart Technologies, a provider of route optimization technologies to organizations in the newspaper, postal and parcel delivery, public works and utilities industries, marked its 20-year partnership with Esri, the world leader in geographic information systems (GIS) technology, with a special award presented by Jack Dangermond, president and CEO and co-founder of Esri. RouteSmart was recognized at the Esri Partner Conference, held at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, CA, March 7-10, 2015. RouteSmart is an Esri Gold Tier partner.
“As a value-added reseller of Esri GIS platform technologies, RouteSmart is honored to receive this award, which recognizes our mutually rewarding business partnership,” said Chris Walz, Vice President Sales & Marketing at RouteSmart.
As the Esri partner program has evolved over the past 20 years, RouteSmart has increasingly aligned its technology solutions to the Esri platform, leveraging Esri technologies for competitive advantage.
“Esri technology underpins our routing solutions, providing the ‘map operating system’ upon which RouteSmart embeds its proprietary routing solvers,” said Larry Levy, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer at RouteSmart. “Organizations that are already using Esri technology have greater confidence in RouteSmart products when they see that our solutions embed natively on top of Esri GIS and conform to the Esri product lifecycle.” RouteSmart enables Esri users to perform complex routing—typically categorized as ‘high density routing’—on the Esri platform.
At the Esri Partner Conference, the RouteSmart team met with Esri representatives to discuss next-generation product builds and strategies. RouteSmart will offer its routing services as a geoprocessing task, which will entail conforming to standard Esri protocols and technology architectures for integration. “Creating tighter hooks to the Esri platform will improve RouteSmart’s alignment with Esri technology, particularly for enterprise clients that have built highly integrated, Esri platform-centric infrastructures,” says Walz. Many clients must meet security and operational standards as they host the technologies behind their own firewalls.
RouteSmart and Esri also discussed an update to RouteSmart Online, RouteSmart’s next-generation route management software for the newspaper industry that nightly processes over 50,000 home delivery routes. “We will be incorporating more optimization capabilities into RouteSmart Online that will extend the power of this routing system for our newspaper clients,” added Walz. Because many of the new optimization capabilities will be map-based, RouteSmart will leverage the mapping capabilities of Esri’s ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS for Server. “We are committed to aligning our products more tightly with the Esri platform and will be working with Esri to execute these technology directions,” added Levy. The rollout of the RouteSmart Online update is slated for the second half of 2015.
The 20-year milestone award was given at the Esri Showcase and GIS Solutions Expo, the event that concluded the Partner Conference and kicked off the Esri Developer Summit, March 10-13.The award was accepted by Walz and Levy, who co-manage the RouteSmart-Esri partnership. They were joined at the conference by RouteSmart colleagues Roy Dahl, Vice President Operations Research, and Ken Sholander, Senior Programmer/Analyst.
